lca - LOMO-compact-automat
Most of the pictures on this site were taken with a LOMO-compact (LC-A).
One of the main features of this camera is that it lets you take
pictures 'from the hip', not looking through the viewfinder. It sets
exposure controls automatically, but focus is set manually to 4 predefined
distances. You soon get accustomed to getting "close portrait" at 75 cm;
full-length vertical picture at 1.5 meter; full-length horizontal at 3 m.
Farther than that lies infinity. These fixed parameters let you stop
thinking about technical issues and start taking pictures of everything
you see.
One of the most interesting projects done with the LC-A was giving it to
kindergarten kids. The end result was - a real child's view of the world.
Though inexpensive, this camera allows one to get rather sharp shots when
there is enough light, and the iris automatically closes to a very narrow position.
